We know that choosing a school for your child is a big decision and there is a lot to think about to ensure your child starts their schooling in a setting that is right for them and helps them grow.
We see each child for their uniqueness and strive to ensure all children are known as an individual. They will know they are loved and feel safe, know them personally i.e. their likes and dislikes and what their next stages of learning are.
Over the past year, our EYFS has undergone an exciting transformation, following significant investment in our learning environments and resources. It’s now a place where curiosity, creativity, and faith shine brightly. We encourage you to visit and see first-hand the engaging, dynamic learning that makes our early years such a special start to school life. To arrange a visit or find out when our next Open Day is taking place, please contact the school office — we’d love to welcome you and show you all that our EYFS has to offer.
The Early Years Foundation Stage refers to the provision provided by Early Years settings, guided by a statutory framework for standards of learning, development, and care of children from birth to 5.
There are seven areas of learning that make up the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.
These are as follows:
At Christ Church CofE Primary School, we recognise that children learn in different ways and at different rates. The EYFS framework identifies three Characteristics of Effective Learning, which underpin all curriculum areas and help children become motivated, resilient, and confident learners:
Playing and Exploring – Children investigate and experience things, and “have a go.” We provide rich, stimulating environments, both indoors and outdoors, where children can explore, experiment, and follow their own interests.
Active Learning – Children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, showing resilience and determination. We support children to develop persistence, curiosity, and confidence in their abilities, encouraging them to reflect on their achievements.
Creating and Thinking Critically – Children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things. We provide opportunities for problem-solving, imagination, and decision-making, allowing children to express creativity and think independently.
These characteristics are embedded in our daily practice through play, adult-led activities, and independent learning. Staff observe and support children to ensure they are engaged, motivated, and developing the skills to become lifelong learners.
